Demarest Lloyd State Park

Along the shore of Buzzard’s Bay just outside of Dartmouth, Massachusetts lies a hidden gem, Demarest Lloyd State Park. Families and sun worshipers find a secluded 1800 foot sand beach surrounded by grassy hills and a broad, scenic marsh, along with shady picnic sites and abundant wildlife.

A summertime haven

Demarest Lloyd State Park is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day from the morning until the early evening. Families with children particularly enjoy the warm, shallow waters of Buzzard’s Bay, perfect for swimming. Wildlife enthusiasts can find all kinds of seabirds like herons, ospreys and hawks. There are numerous picnic areas, as well as clean restrooms and showers.

A family spot

To preserve the peace and quiet of the region, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has forbidden the use of any jet skis, powerboats or floatation devices in the park. Pets are not allowed on the beach at any time. The beach and bay are welcoming spots for canoes and kayaks, with plenty of space and interesting nooks and crannies to explore along the shoreline.
