Dunn State Park

Dunn State Park is a small but relaxing park in the north of Massachusetts near the city of Gardner. Perfectly suited for day trips of all sorts, you never find yourself done with Dunn.
History
The land where Dunn State Park is located was donated by John Dunn upon his death in 1915 to the city of Gardner. Dunn had created the John A. Dunn Furniture Company, which closed its doors during the Great Depression, leaving this park as his only true legacy.
Swimming and picnicking
Dunn's land is dominated by the Dunn Pond, a 20 acre pond with sandy beaches great for swimming, especially during the summer. Life guards make sure that no one comes to harm during their swim, a welcome relief to worrisome parents. As it is close to Gardner, it is a popular picnic spot, and during the hottest summer days ice cream trucks are known to lurk nearby, hoping to lure children's money with their delicious treats.
Hiking and fishing
The 130 acres of Dunn is covered in all sorts of walking trails, most of them encircling Dunn Pond. Along the way there are exercise courses called "Vita Courses," making it a common trip for folks who want to get fit in a natural surrounding. For people that want a bit more privacy or to explore the surrounding area, other trails branch off the main one. The lake is kept well-stocked with fish and fishing derbies are often held on Sundays.
Other activities
The state hosts log rolling, chainsaw, crosscountry races and other activities at Dunn. The pond often freezes through during winter; enjoy old-fashioned ice skating on its icy surface with a quick retreat to the warmth of the nearby lodge and the coziness of a cracking fire.
Visiting Dunn State Park is a fabulous way to spend your weekends, summer, fall, spring or winter. Never say you are done before you visit Dunn!
