Lake Lorraine State Park

Lake Lorraine State Park is a popular park located in Massachusetts, occupying 30 acres of the southern valley of the Connecticut River near the city of Springfield. Visitors can enjoy fishing, freshwater swimming and other water-based activities.
Characteristics
Lake Lorraine is a freshwater lake in a fairly urbanized area of western Massachusetts. It is bordered on the south by train tracks, and on the others by neighborhoods. The water depth averages around 17 feet, making it a great location for boating, fishing and water sports. The fish population includes largemouth bass, yellow perch, long-ear sunfish, banded killi fish and brown bullhead, along with some other species. In addition, Lake Lorraine is stocked each spring and fall with rainbow trout.
Activities
While fishing and swimming are certainly the most popular activities at Lake Lorraine, during some months the park is unstaffed, and at these times swimming is not allowed. However, visitors also enjoy picnicking by the lake and taking walks by the water. The park offers a scenic viewing area for appreciating the beauty of nature.
A few cautions
Since the Lake Lorraine State park is located in an urbanized residential area, parking can be difficult. Visitors should plan on carpooling if at all possible. Part of the shoreline is occupied by a private club and other areas by individual homes; the public cannot visit these locations.
Safety training
Lake Lorraine also hosts a regional boating safety training center, allowing boating enthusiasts to learn how to pursue their hobby as safely as possible.
For those who live near Springfield, Lake Lorraine State Park offers a chance to get out on the water and experience nature. Although facilities are limited, visitors can enjoy fishing and swimming in a convenient location.
