Lake Wyola State Park

Lake shore adventure awaits at Lake Wyola State Park. Known also as the Carroll A. Holmes Recreation Area, Lake Wyola State Park is located in Shutesbury, a quaint hillside town just north of Amherst, Massachusetts.
Quiet waters
Although the park's existence extends back many years, prior to 1997 it was privately owned and operated by the Bennett family. After its purchase by the state, the park opened to the public as a day-use area. Situated on the shores of beautiful Lake Wyola, the park boasts 40 acres of everything from sandy beaches to shaded woods. Wyola is a Native American word meaning “quiet waters,” and there is no better description; the crystal clear water of the 128-acre lake is perfect for swimming.
Outdoor fun
Visitors can choose from a variety of recreational activities. Convenient picnic sites with barbecue grills are situated near the lake shore, and interpretive nature trails wind through the park, beckoning visitors to further explore the beautiful natural scenery. Two mowed playing fields host a variety of sports, and a volleyball court and horseshoe pit offer additional diversions. For the more adventurous, a public boat ramp is accessible at the eastern end of the lake, where anglers can find excellent populations of bass and trout. Public parking, a boardwalk and modern restrooms are all wheelchair-accessible, and life guards are on duty during the season.
For endless outdoor fun, Lake Wyola State Park offers a wide variety of activities in a beautiful lakefront setting. Convenience, accessibility and adventure await in this Massachusetts pearl.
